Julie Fixler Collection Biography of Julie Fixler
When I became engaged on Christmas Eve, 2007, the search began for many things – dress, shoes, invitations and the perfect wedding cake topper for our own wedding cake. Then it hit me – why not use a vintage cake topper? Even better, a vintage military cake topper! My husband Steve is retired from the Army after 25 years of service. With my love for antiques and Steve’s military background, a vintage “army soldier and bride” cake topper would be perfect for us. This would combine two things that are important to each of us. We found the perfect wedding cake topper – a handsome army soldier and his bride arm-in-arm under an arch of flowers, standing atop an intricate base. That was it! I was hooked and the collection grew from there! I must admit I am biased, but my favorites are the military/army ones! I can’t help but wonder about the couples who used these beautiful treasures so many years ago. How did they meet and where did they find their cake topper? A few of the pieces in our collection do have the bride and groom’s names as well as the date and sometimes even the city and state they were married in. This is always very sentimental to me! Friends and family who visit always stop to admire our collection of cake toppers. I use the word “our” because I feel the collection is not only mine, but my husband Steve’s as well. His patience while I peruse antique stores and estate sales in search of more treasures is beyond mere words. We now have close to 100 cake toppers in our collection, and I can honestly say that not once has he ever asked the question, ‘Don’t you have enough?’ I not only found a new passion with regard to collecting, I found my lifetime partner and soul mate! Thank you, Steve!
